HyperSolar, Inc. has announced it has successfully produced renewable hydrogen using commercially-available low-cost triple junction amorphous triple junction silicon solar cells.
At the end of January, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and ultra-low-cost zinc battery developer Eos Energy Storage (Eos) announced a strategic partnership between Eos and Environment One (E/One), a Berkshire Hathaway-backed technology manufacturer located near Albany, New York. Through the partnership, E/One is manufacturing and assembling Eos' outdoor-rated, utility-scale Energy Stack storage modules - on course to hit of volume of 400 MWh per year. The initiative supports Governor Cuomo's push for a cleaner, more reliable grid and aims to establish New York as a global player and leading manufacturer within the renewable energy economy.

San Diego Mayor Kevin L. Faulconer has announced that the City has more than doubled the size of its electric vehicle charging station programme.
District Network Operator (DNO) UK Power Networks and EV charging company Ubitricity have converted three Kensington street lights into electric vehicle (EV) charge points in a trial by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.

LOC Group recently announced a partnership with marine energy research and consultancy association WavEC Offshore Renewables in which LOC is to provide expertise on the complete lifecycle of offshore wind development, from project blueprint to operation. The company wants to develop a fully focused renewables consultancy, having worked on over two thirds of all European offshore wind farms and currently involved with 60 offshore wind projects with a variety of clients.
The partnership with WavEC is aimed at pooling LOC’s expertise in offshore technology, resource measurement and O&M, amongst other areas, with WavEC’s research and analysis capabilities, with an emphasis on floating offshore wind. This in turn will help to benefit the wind industry as a whole.

1.2 billion people around the world currently lack access to electricity, so TRINE seeks to solve this problem by closing the gap between private capital in developed countries and local solar partners in emerging markets. The organisations founding goal is to end energy poverty but finding a long-term solution is key. The for-profit nature of TRINE as a business and its projects deployed as investments means that its projects are economically viable as well as having a social and environmental impact in the long run. TRINE has embarked on crowdfunded campaign to bring clean energy to 5,880 people in Harambee, Kenya. Its partner, Raj Ushanga House (RUH), will use the loan to purchase and distribute 1,200 Azuri Solar Home Systems.

German market research company EuPD Research has forecast a challenging year ahead for the global solar PV market with a possible decline in new installations to 69 GW.
The global PV industry achieved a new record in 2016, according to EuPD Research, with the total installations up to 76.4 GW. China dominated the market with about 34 GW of installations with the US, Japan and India following on behind. However, the company finds that significant reduction of newly installed systems of around 10 to 12 GW is likely in 2017.
